Don Marquis
Born in 1878, in Walnut, Illinois, Unites States, Don Marquis started his writing career as a newspaper writer for the Atlanta Journal and eventually ended working for the New York Tribune, where he created a portfolio for his works "The Tower". This consisted of his own column where he was able to express his talents for the newspaper.
In 1916, Don Marquis developed a fictional character called Archy. Archy was a cockroach in which Don made to life through poems including the one featured on this website "Pity the Poor Spiders". His humorist approach allowed him to be one of the most reputable writers for his time. In 1935, two years before his death Don Marquis published his final volume of the Archy Series called " Archy Does His Part". ("Who was Don Marquis? Everything You Need to Know", November 10, 2017) |
